Every time that I do a blog post, I share with you a piece of myself. So having put some thought into this I’ve decided that My first real post for 2013 will be about “What’s on my Playlist”. Sooo I would need to give you an insight that tickles my toes and gets my feet tapping and my head bobbing. Well, in my music library you can find all sorts, and this is not figuratively speaking either! I really do mean: ALL sorts.
If its Indie rock, I probably like it. If it has killer beats, I probably like it. If the vocals and lyrics give me that “Spiritual” feeling, I’ll definitely love it! That being said, I have quite a varied collection of house, jazz, soul, R ‘n B, Hip hop & Rap, Kwaito, Classical, Blues, Rock, Im sure you could even find some heavy stuff in there too! With even room for electro, Dub Step & (At times the lesser known cousin) Trap music. So what can you find in my playlist right now? Here’s my Current top 10:
1) White Nite – Denim Mix
I must admit that I stumbled across this mix when I heard it at a friend’s place a few months ago. Perfect balance of those electro house beats, some deep base, and even features THAT facebook track… sounds average doesn’t it? Well considering that “White Nite” is a UK based DJ/Mixer, its quite refreshing to hear how he integrates our very Mzansi style into his sets! Hope to share some links once I can find the source for myself J
2) Goldfish – Taking Back Tomorrow
As always: AMAZING work from these dudes! This song blows me away every single time I hear it! The sound is very right now, and is so well produced, I’d be seriously disappointed if they don’t earn some serious award time with it… Upon first hearing I thought “Oh, great… here’s the next Calvin Harris track the masses will be howling about”. Then I saw the credits! Once Again, Great track full of international sounds and flavours, high quality production and what’s even better: Its home grown!
3) Kelly Rowland – Kisses Down Low
Absolute HOTNESS from the very first beat of bass! Great vocals when at the start if the track, I lose interest at the hook but then chorus comes along and lays down the LAW! Now I am no fan of over-sexed lyrics but this is definitely worth hanging onto simply because of the way the beat and vocals come together over the chorus… Props to producer, Mike Will Made it (Shorter name please), he has definitely breathed new life into this singer.
4) Chianosky – Walking Away
Definitely suited my mood and the weather this past easter weekend with all the wind and rain in Cape Town. Another Sama nominee and what a talent, I really wish I had some more music by this talented. The brazen lyrics make me stop and listen any day of the week.
5) Taylor Swift – I knew you were trouble
Take pity on me please, I have now officially come out and admitted that I enjoy her damming lyrics! But I’m convinced I am NOT the only closet cased fan out there. If anything: The girl can sing.. and write… and play… and then she is such a goody and always pretty what’s not to love? Im glad im not the ex though… your shame will be forever held hostage in the country music hall of fame! But back to the SONG! Really like her mix of genres in this one and she has really catchy lyrics… I think its staying on the playlist for a while <3
6) Next – Wifey
Hate me because it’s so old. Hate me because it’s a boy band, but the lyrics speak to the girl in me and what girl doesn’t want to hear about why you want her to be your wife? GUYS take some serious notes here.
7) Clint C Ft. Ernie B – Last Night
Pop meets R’nB , The opening 4counts just make me want to get up and dance, and what’s better? These are Two Cape Town boys. ( LOVE IT!)
8) Native Rootz Entertainment Promo EP
Now this may seem a tad unfair being a top ten and all but when the tracks are so eloquently mixed, you’re just left disappointed when it ends so you simply have to listen to the whole thing! These peeps have their own well established events that play their own genre of music which they like to call “Jazz House”. Some house, a little jazz and swing and a whole lot of fun! There will most definitely be more to follow about these slick kids
9) Janet Jackson – If (Kaytranada remix)
I know this is another oldie but Kaytranada really spiced this one up giving it some deep base and a definite jazzy… Another Name to watch!
10) Maroon 5 – Women
This song featured on the Spiderman 2 motion picture soundtrack. The use of piano and strings compliments and even adds to the silky smooth vocals with synths bringing it into this century. One of those ULTIMATE faves
So there you have it. My current top 10 and WHY im loving it so much! Hope you feel the same and don’t forget to drop your opinions on the Rojo Dynasty facebook page, simply just “Like” and then comment on the post there, alternatively follow Rojo Dynasty on twitter @RojoDynasty.
